We hear about the huge pipelines within the state or sometimes between the states but never watch them how they are constructed. Welding especially the arc welding process is the best suitable technique to join these lines. Pipelines are the best source for the transportation of matter (liquids or gases) from one region to another. Current application areas includes the transportation of crude oil, natural gas, bio fuels etc. Sometimes they are also used to transport water over longer distances.
Well we see the process of welding at normal conditions and temperature but the above video is about how the welding is conducted in colder areas below ambient temperature. Of course the material and welding procedures are different as compared to that used at normal conditions. Both material and consumables are selected according to environment and transportation conditions in order to prevent any imperfection and consequent service failure.
Pipeline welding is a bit different process as compared to pipe welding. The process is carried out by two welders doing welding on either sides. Watch the video and do share your views about them. These guys are just awesome.
